About Chinese Christian Church of Maryland
Short history
In 1978, a small group of brothers and sisters met regularly in a small apartment to pray and seek the Lord. One year later, in 1979, the leading brother of the group, Bro. Jack Chow, received God’s word while reading Isaiah chapter 55 to start a Sunday worship meeting at the Good Tidings Tabernacle, an Assemblies of God church in Beltsville, Maryland. The Chinese-American Church of Christ ( 華美基督教會) came to existence the first Sunday after Thanksgiving. In 1989, the church was incorporated with the state of Maryland under the name of Chinese Christian Church of Maryland (CCCMD), but we kept the same Chinese name.
CCCMD is very closely tied to the Ridgewood Pentecostal Church in Brooklyn, New York. Both the retired pastor, Rev. Jack Chow, and our current pastor, Rev. T.C. Yu were ordained by the Fellowship ministers. CCCMD is one of the Fellowship churches of the Ridgewood Pentecostal Church.
Who we are
We are a group of Christ-centered, Bible-believing Christians longing to know, worship, have, and experience God in our day-to-day lives. We treasure the presence of God and we desire to keep a constant intimate fellowship with the indwelling Christ. Christ is all and in all.
A summary from the teachings of the early Zion Faith Home as mentioned in “Things New and Old” (July, 1985) describes the general emphasis of our church.
The Pentecostal movement was not primarily about signs and wonders, but rather about making Jesus king in the hearts of believers.
The baptism with the Holy Spirit is a further manifestation of Christ.
The focus on the yielding of control to Christ has personal and communal dimensions:
1. Christ enthroned in the heart brings all aspects of life under divine control, and
2. Christ manifested in and among His people both reaches out through them in love to the needy (evangelism
and missionary work) and offers them a foretaste of heavenly blessings (in constant communion and fellowship with God).
Life itself is a religious experience, saturated with prayer and Scripture and sanctified by the presence and power of the Holy Spirit manifested in both gifts and grace.
What we do
Meet to seek the Lord:
Our meetings provide the very essence of our church’s ways – waiting upon the Lord, seeking the Lord, praising the Lord, studying His word…so that we may go deeper into this sweet fellowship with Him.
We long to be filled and controlled by the Holy Spirit so that we can live in Him and serve Him moment by moment.
Ministry and Fellowship:
All members are encouraged to participate in serving God with whatever gifts and talents He has bestowed to us.
We are members of His body and brothers and sisters of His family. We care for each other, forgive each other, pray for each other, help in practical ways during time of need and share burdens as well as joys. We are all part of God’s family and we love one another in His love.
Evangelism and Mission:
As we grow in our walk with God, He shares with us His burden and heart for lost souls. After being inwardly filled with God’s love, that love naturally overflows from the church unto unbelievers around us. We have evangelistic meetings at church and in homes, and continue to participate in different missionary works through prayer and financial support and short term missionaries. We are currently supporting more than dozen of missions/missionaries around the world. Reaching out to the lost souls is a burden shared by the entire church.
Young People and Children:
The entire church family has a heavy burden and responsibility, to ensure that our precious young people and children have all accepted Christ, are learning God’s Word, are being filled with the Holy Spirit, are seeking an intimate relationship with Jesus, and are being trained and given the opportunity to serve.
Our Beliefs
We believe that the whole Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.
(Luke 24:27,32,45; John 2:22 5:39; Rom 15:4 16:26; 2Tim 3:16-17; 2Pet 1:20-21 3:16)
We believe that there is one true God, eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
(Gen 1:1,26; Deut 6:4; Matt 28:19; 2Cor 3:17 13:14; John 10:30 17:11,21,22)
We believe in the deity and humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.
(Matt 1:21 28:19; Luke 1:35; 2Cor 5:21; Gal 4:4; Phil 2:6; 1Tim 1:15 3:16)
We believe that God created man after His own image and man sinned and fell by disobeying God. And man’s only salvation is through the blood of Jesus which is the gift of God by grace alone and only received through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
(Gen 1:26; Matt 1:21; Acts 4:12; Rom 3:25 5:19; Eph 2:8; Heb 7:25 9:14 10:19; 1John 1:7,9)
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the promised Comforter of the Father who places the believer in the Body of Christ, indwells in the believer, and bestows spiritual gifts to the Church.
(Matt 3:11; Luke 4:1; John 14:16,17; Rom 8:13; 1Cor 12:13; Acts 1:8 2:38,39 10:47 19:2; Eph 1:13)
We believe in that Christ shall return and judge the living and the dead for both the saved and the lost: they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.
(Acts 1:11; Rom 14:10 ; 1Cor 4:5 15:22 ;1Thess 4:14~17; 2Tim 4:1; Heb 9:27,28; 1Pet 4:5; Rev 20:12,13)
We believe in the spiritual unity and fellowship of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
(John 13:34,35 17:11,21~23; Acts 2:42; Rom 12:5; 1Cor 1:9,10; Eph 1:10 4:2~6,13; 1John 1:3,4 3:11,18,23 4:7,12,20)
We believe in teaching the Bible doctrine to all Christians.
(Matt 4:23 9:35 11:1 28:20; Luke 24:27; Acts 2:42 11:26 17:11 18:11 28:31; Rom 12:7; 1Cor 12:8, 28 ;Eph 4:11 1Tim 2:7)
We believe in preaching the Gospel to the unsaved world is every Christian’s responsibility.
(Matt 4:23 9:35 11:1 28:19; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8; Rom 10:14,15 12:6; 1Cor 12:10,28)
We believe in God’s healing of all manner of sicknesses and all manner of disease.
(Gen 20:17; Exo 15:26; Num 12:13; Ps 103:3 107:20; Isa 53:5; Mal 4:2; Matt 4:23,24 8:17 9:35 10:1 ; Mark 16:18; Acts 3:16; 1Cor 12:9; James 5:14~16 ;1Pet 2:24 ;Rev 22:2)
